Nudges, Ideas and a sprinkle of career advice
This is where you’ll read from me. It’s a mix of nudges that encourage you to take the next bold step, ideas that help you make a change and advice so you can avoid the mistakes I made along the way.
From my keyboard to you. No ChatGPT involved, just a bunch of honest writing, usually done in the morning hours before the world wakes up.
I hope you enjoy it and I’d love to hear from you, so feel free to comment on these posts.
How do you know your business idea is a good one?
Imposter syndrome can rear its ugly head when you start a business. I don’t say this lightly because I think that we’re throwing imposter syndrome around far too much (and somehow telling most women they must have it, right? No they don’t). Anyway, detour aside, when...
Social life as a business owner
I always try and share both: the things I love about being my own boss and the stuff that is challenging. Because there is always both.
Today’s thought is about the rhythm in which I work and live as a business owner.
Spare rooms and ramen noodles?
Many people I met – and you may well be one of them – are several years into their professional career. Quite a few have a family, which means additional caring and financial commitments that make “just quit and do your own thing” a piece of useless advice.
How I decided to take the plunge
Whenever I speak with people who are playing with the idea of leaving the corporate world behind, the following question comes up: how did you know when it was the right time?

Meetups and connections
When I go to business meetups, I connect with people who do completely different things and it’s been a really cool way to broaden my own horizon.
How I do stuff in my business
The first part of my business that I hired someone to help with was ‘admin’.
At the time I had a 3 month old baby and wanted to start working a few hours a week. So I found a VA who helped for 5 hours a month.
Inspiration – where do you get yours?
Inviting inspiration and creativity is something I feel much more able to do now as a business owner.
True to your core
One thing that was always key to the way I work was being aligned to my values. But until about 2 years ago I had never spelled them out clearly. All I knew was that if my gut told me things weren’t quite right with the way I worked or what I was asked to do, then I better listen.
Patience and the smell of soap
One of my favourite places on this planet is the south of France. More specifically a small village in the Gard department where I spent many holidays as a teenager. And one of my favourite activities to do was to visit the local markets that always smelled...
What if doing it yourself is the whole point?
Going ‘scrappy’ until it’s time to automate or upgrade to a proper business tool is advice I received early and that I have taken to heart.
