Where does your inspiration come from?
My friend and coach, Katie, gets ideas everywhere and when we’re on a call she’ll quickly write down a word or phrase that she turns into content.
Andy often gets new ideas when he’s on a dog walk or doing wood working.
I’m sure you’ve had many moments away from your desk when suddenly a thought popped into your head about something you were working on. Maybe the whole solution arrived, suddenly crystal clear.
Inviting inspiration and creativity is something I feel much more able to do now as a business owner. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time coming up with ideas and plans in my corporate jobs and was often fortunate to have the freedom to turn them into something (projects, campaigns, content).
But there was always still a need to be visible in an office, at my desk, at least some of the time.
While I don’t go for leisurely strolls during the workday whenever I feel stuck (I probably should, though), I have more freedom to move around to help me think.
A commute and compulsory time in an office would seriously impact that and not in a good way.
My favourite places for thinking and giving new ideas more shape include dog walks in the fields, tending to the plants in my garden, walking around town before I pick up my daughter from nursery, but also just doing normal household chores.
My task today is to put time in my calendar for a midday dog walk to help my brain re-energise during busy days.
Do you think a midday walk would help you, too? If so, schedule it so nobody else can take over that time.
