Because I’ve been there!
More than once. Back in 2015 after a couple of years of using Tableau sporadically for analysis, I had a massive realisation that “I want to do this all day every day!” But I knew I couldn’t achieve that goal in the job I was currently in. I spent all my time putting together PowerPoint slides and stuck in dead-end meetings.
It was so frustrating because I knew I was capable of so much more, but the opportunities just weren’t there for me. So I knew something had to change.
By being able to demonstrate my technical skills and – most importantly – the reputation I’d built in the market over the years, my new boss said I was the “easiest hire he’d ever made”.
This is when I realised that in the data world it’s not just about your technical skills, but all the other qualities, skills and ideas you bring that make you a hugely valuable asset to the company.
